Volunteers
The Nature Reserve would not function without the support of volunteers. We already receive valuable help from the Downlands Countryside Management Project but we always require more help in completing all the skilled, and unskilled, tasks around the site.
There are many 'work days' across the year which enable the management committee to carry out works such as path clearance, tree planting and thinning, pond maintainance as well as clearing litter and rubbish from verges and under trees. We usually spend one morning on the second Saturday of each month at the Nature Reserve - so note your diary now*.
If you would like to come along and help you will be very welcome.

Volunteers have help re-lay a path, cleared out the pond, replaced a footbridge, re-laid hawthorn hedges, repaired a path and planted a new orchard.
The trees chosen for the new orchard are fruiting varieties that mostly originate from the county of Surrey or a neighbouring county. All of the trees are heritage varieties that are adapted to the soil conditions at Blanchman's Farm. There are apples, pears, plums and a 'Nottingham Medlar'.
How it works
You should always wear stout footwear and robust clothing and be prepared to get a bit dirty and possibly muddy. Hot drinks are usually available but please bring some food and drink with you if you intend to stay with us for more than a couple of hours.
Please contact us beforehand by phoning Pam on 01883 626694 so that we know you are coming and can discuss the jobs to be done.
In return you will be making an important contribution to the quality of our natural environment as well as getting some exercise and making new friends (or catching up with old ones). Marion Jones says
"I get a real sense of achievement by improving the local environment and helping all the animals that rely on this green space."
*Please keep visiting this page of our website to check whether any additional dates have been arranged.

Management Plan
We are working in accordance with the latest Management Plan published in 2009. This details important work that helps preserve existing features of the Nature Reserve but also lists a number of new projects that will develop Blanchman's Farm for the future.
These projects include clearing space for an pictorial flower meadow; improving access and the network of paths; improving the fencing and hedges around the horse grazing fields and undertaking a feasibility assessment for a heritage orchard.
